  • Humanists UK
    National charity promoting humanism, representing the non-religious and supporting those who wish to live humanist lives. Multiple classroom resources available.
  • Sexual orientation definitions and discrimination
    Definition of sexual orientation and explanations of unlawful discrimination on the grounds of sexual orientation.
  • Stonewall
    Organisation campaigning for lesbian, gay and bisexual rights. Site contains lots of information including material specifically for under 21s and teachers.
  • Schools Out
    Schools Out provide a support network for all people who want to raise the issue of homophobia, transphobia and heterosexism in education. Teaching pack and student toolkit available.
  • LGBT history month
    Lots of resources for schools on lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans issues.
  • Speak Out
    Opportunity for lesbian, gay and bisexual secondary school students to take part in Stonewall's new survey.

    Organisation seeking to protect civil liberties and promote human rights for everyone. Has played a key role in cases that champion children’s rights.
  • UK Youth Parliament (UKYP)
    Run by young people for young people, UKYP provides opportunities for 11-18 year-olds to use their voice in creative ways to bring about social change.
  • British Youth Council
    Organisation that aims to empower young people aged 25 and under, to have a say and be heard, through training workshops, volunteering opportunities and inspiring campaigns.
  • Children’s Commissioner for England
    The Commissioner promotes the views of young people. Site allows young people to share their thoughts on a variety of subjects.
  • Participation Works
    Participation Works is a partnership of six national charities and young people’s agencies which supports organisations to effectively engage children and young people in the development, delivery and evaluation of services that affect their lives.
  • Citizenship Foundation
    An independent education and participation charity that aims to encourage and enable individuals to engage in democratic society.
  • Association for Citizenship Teaching
    Resources and information to help deliver Citizenship. 
  • Right Here, Right Now
    Right Here, Right Now is a KS3 resource about human rights, which was published in 2008. It was developed by the Ministry of Justice with the input of a wide range of civil society organisations, NGOs and teachers and includes lesson plans to complement the citizenship curriculum.
  • Oxfam
    School resources on global citizenship, including links to resources from other charities and development agencies.
  • UNICEF Rights Respecting Scheme
    This scheme places the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child at the heart of the curriculum, mainly consisting of online courses for teachers and frameworks to implement across your school. This framework can be used to support work on behaviour, sustainable schools, and healthy schools, as well as SEAL and Citizenship learning. Applying for these Awards may be a good way to introduce a Rights Respecting Scheme. 
  • Amnesty International

  • Campaigning
    This cross-curricular programme uses historical campaigns to inspire and teach campaign skills, enabling children and young people to run their own campaigns about issues that affect them today. 
  • Freedom
    A KS3 resource on transatlantic slavery from the National Maritime Museum.
  • Understanding slavery
    A partnership of UK museums creating free resources on slavery for KS3 and KS4 students.
  • Moving Here
    A rich resource about 200 years of migration to the UK, full of audio-visual clips, archive and museum objects.
  • Moving People, Changing Places
    Information and lesson plans on the impact of migration and diasporas on history, culture, religion, language, traditions and laws, the imagination, emotions and places based on the findings of a five year research project called ‘Diasporas, Migration and Identities’.
  • Connections: Hidden British Histories
    A major project to explore experiences of and interactions between Asian, Black and Jewish people in modern Britain, and includes an exhibition/website for young people. 
  • Your Justice Your World (archived)
    Educational resource from the Ministry of Justice, to help young people from 7 to 16 understand the justice system.
  • Holocaust Education Development Programme
    Programme working with teachers to transform teaching and learning about the Holocaust.
