Civil Service and internal applicants

Candidates on level transfer will be offered their current salary, or the starting point of the salary band, whichever is higher. Candidates on promotion will be offered the starting salary for the role. A Civil Service candidate’s salary will be rounded up to the nearest pay point on the relevant pay scale.

External applicants

Appointments are generally made at the starting point of the pay grade, however a higher salary may be available for an exceptional candidate.

Working hours and flexible working

Annual leave

All employees working full-time are entitled to a basic leave entitlement of 30 days plus bank and public holidays each year. This will be pro rata for part time employees.

Learning and development

We are keen for everyone to develop to their full potential within Commission and we recognise that this takes significant investment from us and an ongoing commitment from you to make this happen. In your first few months you will complete our corporate induction programme, designed to help you settle in quickly and give you a solid grounding in the work we do. We offer a wide variety of learning and development activities and, for our managers, we offer the leadership and management development. There are also options for furthering your professional qualifications once you have passed the probationary period.

Employee Assistance Programme

We offer all employees, their partners and children up to age 21 access to a confidential service which provides information, support and professional guidance in managing difficulties at home or work. Short-term counselling and specialist advice is also available on a face-to-face basis through the programme.

Season ticket loans

If you use public transport to commute to and from work with us you will be entitled to apply for an interest free loan to purchase your season ticket.

Bicycle loans

In the interests of the environment we will look to provide interest free loans to employees wishing to purchase a bicycle to use to commute to and from work.

Reimbursement of eye tests

We will reimburse eyesight testing claims, up to a maximum value. We will provide additional support where lenses are required only for display screen equipment (DSE) use.
