When public spending is reduced, public sector organisations may have to make difficult financial decisions.

Public bodies have legal duties to eliminate unlawful discrimination, advance equal opportunities and promote good relations between people.

When making financial decisions such as reducing services, public bodies must develop proposals that consider the needs of all members of their community. Decisions must not discriminate against people based on any protected characteristic

The Commission has developed these materials to introduce equality impact assessments, which help those delivering public services to make decisions which are fair to all.
